I wish tourism in India were promoted more - the r I wish tourism in India were promoted more - the right places in the right ways. I went to Sundarbans some 7-8 years back. Ecologically speaking, those swamps were one of the most fascinating places I have seen. We even got lucky and saw a tiger in the wild! Not to add the numerous other birds, crocodiles, deer and so on. Yet, very few people in India have really explored (or even know) this part of the country. I was in New Orleans in June and went on a swamp tour to see alligators, paying $65/head. And in a burning 38C, that’s what we saw - a few alligators. NYC is one of those places that I can never get ti NYC is one of those places that I can never get tired of visiting! And honestly, the city has so much to offer that you’ll probably find something new on every trip. Having been there a good 5-6 times, mostly as a student, I have found ways to make sure I don’t get carried away by the insane tourist prices and find cheap alternatives to enjoy the same nonetheless! The one thing that still continues to bring out the sparkle in my eyes is the famous NYC skyline. And yes, yes, you’ll find dozens of recommendations on the best places to see it from. But after all the “been there, done that”s, I think nothing beats the views from the water! Here are my two recommendations for that, assuming you don’t have cash to shell out for cruises: - *Staten Island Ferry*: It’s a free ferry that goes from The Battery in Manhattan to Staten Island every 30 mins or so and it’s absolutely FREE! Try to time yourself for sunset so that you can catch that spectacular skyline on your ferry back from Staten Island! - *NYC Ferry*: Ferry rides are for $2.75 for a single ride. You can either take the Astoria ride to take in the entire Lower and Mid-town Manhattan views or take the Coney Island ride from Wall Street for the views in this video! Save the post for future travels! (Or maybe wait for a blog post)
Looking back at the year that it has been! Starte Looking back at the year that it has been! Started with a heartbreak, ended with contracting Covid. As sad as it might seem, there's been a few triumphs along the way as well. And I will stick to those for now. I haven't written in a while, so let's rectify that - seeing as I have a lot of time at hand anyway. My top 3 realizations from the year that flew past --- 1. As I tried to balance and stabilize my professional life, my personal life hit a setback in many aspects and I am ever so grateful to have friends and family who had my back and lent me confidence and support at every step and miraculously brought me back from hitting rock bottom every time. I cannot emphasize how much your mental health improves just by surrounding yourself with the right people. 2. I have always prided myself in having multiple hobbies and nurturing those alongside academics. But I guess having a full-time job changes that dynamics, especially at the onset. And it's OKAY! I have long struggled to prioritize things, but when the back is against the wall, I guess you learn it eventually. I realized though, that I didn't felt any FOMO because who knew I could turn into a workaholic when given the right project? Wanting to perform your best, wanting to successfully don multiple hats is great, but not at the cost of draining yourself. 3. Like most people, there were professional goals I set out to achieve at the start of the year. A year later, I haven't been able to do justice to some of them. It breaks my heart to not be able to realize those expectations I had from myself, but after months, I have finally been able to forgive myself and cut myself some slack for failing at those. As much as I associated my worth with those goals, as much as I cried over not accomplishing those goals, at the end of the day, there isn't any single road to 'success'. You're at liberty to define what success means to you - and even surviving the pandemic for another year without giving up counts! So here's me, from the only travel I managed this last year, hoping I have a few more days this new year to feel the wind in my face and revive my blog/writing. Happy New Year, guys!

Can you separate the art from the artist? It's a Can you separate the art from the artist? It's a question I have pondered over many a times, and I am yet to arrive at a binary answer. At times, it seems impossible - since art is just a reflection of an artist's personal beliefs, perspectives, life experiences apart from a fragment of their imaginations. But on the other hand, if you start to boycott every piece of art by problematic artists, won't you be missing out on a lot of wonderful creations? When I first saw Manhattan, I fell in love with the city more than the characters of the movie. It's not the first time the city has taken a backdrop in a movie. Years later, when I personally had the opportunity to visit this beautiful city, I would totally justify Hollywood's obsession with this place. But this caption isn't about Manhattan or its charm. It's about well, the question I posed. Having read "Lolita", the age-difference between a 42-year old divorcee and 17-year high schooler in Woody Allen's Manhattan wasn't a shock. But Woody Allen's personal life intertwined with the theme of the movie gave me a lot of afterthoughts. For the uninitiated, Dylan Farrow, Woody Allen's adopted daughter has for years now accused the director of sexual abuse while she was an adolescent. Manhattan's young actress, Mariel Hemingway too has spoken up about inappropriate advances by the director. And yet, the stories of these victims are overlooked. Why? In the name of art. With the likes of J.K. Rowling coming out as transphobic, do I forget how Harry Potter shaped a significant part of my childhood? Or do I let it slide and keep only the artist's creation as a memory? Again, where does one draw the line then? Should some actions be more condoned than others? When do you stop accepting the artist and start holding them accountable for abuse of power? When do you finally abandon your appreciation for art and give greater priority to an artist's misconduct? As a woman and feminist, I have a biased answer, but is it really the wrong answer? I guess it's a constant battle between your ethics and your love for creative expressions. And choosing one is much easier said than done.
Looking through the gallery, I found a 4-year old Looking through the gallery, I found a 4-year old picture of myself. I keep joking about how my face hasn't changed in the last 10 years and comparing this picture with the one 4 years back just made me laugh all over again. Age is just a number, but aging is real. And it isn't necessarily in the wrinkles in your face or receding hairline. For me, it's been about discovering new things about myself and keeping the zeal alive to grow as an individual, even as my existential crisis and cynicism stay aput. 4 years back, I hadn't stepped out of my city by myself. 4 years back, I didn't know how to cook or clean after myself. 4 years back, I didn't realize how much the mere presence of people affects someone's mental well-being. 4 years back, I couldn't comprehend what a healthy, adult relationship is supposed to be like. 4 years back, I was struggling to answer what I wanted out of life. Yeah, the last one still remains unanswered. But in 4 years, I have learnt to live by myself in a foreign land, performing daily household chores (and occasionally cribbing to my Grandmom for her absence). I have fallen in love, and I have felt the freedom of having my own space. I have backpacked and traveled to remote places, spending time with families that made me feel welcome irrespective of where I hailed from. My eyes still become tiny slits when I laugh. I still get ID-ed at the bar. I am still all of 5'2. But I am finally out of cocoon, well on the path to become a butterfly.
